 little knowledge about viruses:

What to know about *VIRUS*
 Introduction:
Virus:is a tiny particle _(virion)_ consisting of a core DNA or RNA surrounded by a protein coat _(capsid)_.

 Structure and properties
 Properties:
Intracellular parasite i.e _requires living host cell in order to multiply_
Reproduce only within cell they infect.
Contain either  DNA or RNA,not all _( true cell has both)_

 Structure:
Virion: a single infective virus  particle.
Viral size:are determine with the aid of microscopy. Different viruses varies considerably in size. Although most are a bit smaller than bacterial.

all viruses have atleast  one of this types of nucleic acid:
Double - stranded DNA
Single - stranded RNA
Double - stranded RNA
Single - stranded DNA

 Common shape of viruses:
1. Helical viruses _(e.g Ebola virus)_.
2. Polyhedral viruses _(e.g adenovirus)._
3. Complex viruses _(e.g bacteriophage)._

 Classes of viruses:
There are seven classes ; ds(double stranded)
Ss(single stranded)

1.ds DNA  Viruses
2. Ss DNA
3. ds RNA
4. Ss RNA - _positive sense RNA genomes_
5. Ss RNA - _negative sense RNA genomes_
6. Positive sense Ss
 transcriptase viruses.
7. Double stranded DNA reverse transcriptase viruses.

little summary of How viruses get into cells:
The ability of virus to infect a host depends on a match between the proteins on the surface of the virus and the receptors on the surface of the host cell. Cell brings the virus into cytoplasm ( this mechanism is known as endocytosis).

 Terms to know:
1. Spikes: proteins that stick out of the envelope or off the surface of the capsid
2. Capsid: protein coat
3. Envelope: viruses whose capsid are not covered by an envelope are known as _non- enveloped viruses_.
4. Nucleic acid: DNA and RNA
 5. DNA: deoxoribonucleic acid.
 6. RNA: ribonucleic acid.

Conclusion : viruses can seem deadly as it is when they hijack our cells. Either dead( particle).

 OR
Living (when they hijack living cells ).

 Cells hijacker
