WHAT TEENAGERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VIRGINITY

Virginity as a topic is not new to  us, it’s something we’ve heard about since childhood. Virginity is the act of being untouched and spotless sexually, it is cleanliness in every aspect of a persons sexual life... However , we have been used to taking instructions given to us by our parents,religious leaders and sometimes teachers.
What do you think about virginity? When you are with your peer group and virginity is been discussed , what is the majority view? Is virginity something to be cherished or is it an overrated issue?
I know some young girls who are virgins but acts up in the presence of their friends as bad girls because they don’t want to be considered childish or naive. Do you think a girl who is a virgin should pretend not to be? Well I know virginity is not an AIT news that need to be broadcasted but I beg to differ. Virginity has always been the pride of a woman, the honor of the man she would get married to.
In our present world where the media and internet have moralized sexual promiscuity, it is very important to state that virginity is worth the pride.
A lot of young teenagers have however developed shortcut to keeping their virginity, they get involved in all sorts of sexual activity which excludes vaginal sex and then they believe they are still pure.. little wonder why I said at the beginning that virginity is cleanliness in every aspect of ones life not only vaginally ..  One reason I consider our chasity to be precious as young females are in terms of faithfulness in the future. Consider a girl who has started having sex at the age of fourteen, what do you think will become of her at age twenty not to talk about when she is getting married,  teacher once said a person who didn’t abstain from pre marital sex would find it difficult to abstain from extra marital sex. Virginity is your pot of honey !!!! Sadly enough, a lot of girls have begin to shed their honey at every given opportunity. We all aspire to be great in the future , so why risk that?
Imagine that Vicky Moore  in her teenage years lost her virginity and by the time she was twenty, she has slept with over ten guys and still counting. After some years Vicky makes it big and becomes a celebrity till one day when she was involved in a scandal . A newspaper headline read” Vicky Moore- Her past sexual Escapades “! Imagine the disgrace and harm such scandal would do to her image? Am pretty sure none of us wants our teenage mistakes to haunt us in the future and to prevent it is by being disciplined .
Some of us have friends who cajole us and encourage us to lose our virginity, but always remember that Nettie said such friends are not true friends, you have to realize the fact  that they only cajole you because you have something they don’t have and they want you to lose it as well, so instead of you feeling insecure and sad because you are not like them, be glad that you are different from the pack and be disciplined cox you stand out. ...
    I have noticed a trend in Nigeria expecially among the young minds, we are easily carried away  because of the explicit media messages we receive about the sexually active life of teenagers, the world over. But I have also noticed that these media content has few underlining positive messages as well. For instance, in the seasonal movie : GOSSIP GIRL where it seems girls loose their virginity and sleep with guys at random, I noticed Jenny and Blair Waldorf were both depressed when they lost their virginity, that shows that there are a lot of emotional and psychological issues that could result when you loose your virginity... issues like:
Low self esteem
Regret
Guilt
Would often surface and I bet you don’t wanna go down that way. What about the movie ‘SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICA TEENAGER’ remember the fifteen year old girl that carelessly lost her virginity and got pregnant in the process, what does that prove? It shows you can get pregnant from the very first time you have sex....
To wrap it all up, virginity is still cherished in the society today and every boy and girl should thrive to remain in that state, and if you already lost yours, well it’s not a written over page, you still have a long way to go, forget the past and move on... choose friends with the right purpose of friendship, friends who can impact you positively because if we continue to jeopardize our lives with sex, it won’t only thwart our dreams, it would also tear down the moral fabric of our society.  Not even in the name of love should you trade your body,,,it’s worth protecting... so say yes to chasity
